Race, Empire and Education

REE is an interdisciplinary, international research collective that supports critical discussions of race, racialisation and racism in education.  We examine an array of educational domains, including but not limited to policy, curriculum, pedagogy, and social movements, past and present. We seek to build knowledge, resources and communities to interrogate racial domination in education across scales and societies.

REE has been running since 2016 and is made up of mainly academics, activists, doctoral students, postdocs, teachers, and curriculum developers. Most of our events are online, but we also have in-person groups at the University of Sheffield, the University of Melbourne and the University of Auckland.

Mission

  • To provide a forum for critical discussion and learning
  • To build communities of inquiry and action, including collaborative research networks
  • To develop and curate resources to support learning in the field of race and education
