The Race Empire and Education Collective (REE) was set up in October 2016 by a group of academics and doctoral researchers based at the University of Cambridge. It started as a small in-person reading group, which has expanded in its reach and activities over the years.
REE is an interdisciplinary research collective that supports critical discussions of race, racialisation and racism in education. REE cultivates creative research and facilitates scholar-activist exchange through an engagement with historical and contemporary theory and practice on racism, imperialism and coloniality and their intersections with other systems of domination. Within this collective, we examine an array of educational domains, including but not limited to literature, policy, curriculum and pedagogy, and social movements, past and present. In doing so we seek to build knowledge, resources and communities to interrogate racial domination in education across scales and societies.
